I'm pretty sure this song is about Vic Chesnutt. The Christmas tree reference (Vic died on Christmas day) and the line borrowed from his song " Myrtle" "It was bigger than me and I felt like a sick childdragged by a donkey, through the myrtle"

Did you save your wisdom teeth?Did you burn your Christmas tree?He got dragged by a donkeyThrough the dust and the myrtleBut he was once a little fat babyDid you lose your [fatty?] in the bath?Did you make the city slickers laugh? He got dragged by a donkeyThrough the glass and the myrtleBut he was once a little fat babyDid you burn your wisdom teeth?Did you save your Christmas tree?He got dragged by a donkeyThrough the switches and the myrtleBut he was once a little fat baby

I've driven through the neighborhood where part of this was filmed on a couple of occasions. Don't go there - it won't do anything positive for anyone's world view. All the people who call it home were once innocent children too, and now one can only wonder if they ever even did anything to deserve the punishment the world must've dealt them.

I prefer to the live more than music video. It is not the pure Sparklehorse.

Absolutely beautiful. I had the good fortune to see Sparklehorse live twice in the UK. What a genius he was......

this song makes me think of every serial killer, every rapist, everyone who as committed unspeakable acts, and how they all began as little fat innocent babies. it's just the saddest thought to me

Probably my favorite sh song.Mark died about a week before I was made alive by the Spirit of God. My young brother, who was killed a few weeks ago just before his firstborn came into this world, was the only other person I knew who was also a Sparklehorse fan. I remember he was the one who told me Mark had died. His name was Tim. Timotheus. He was such a happy little fat baby, too. Looking forward to holding his little fat baby when she gets here any day now. Wishing he could have cus I know he woulda been such a good daddy, he was always so good with the kids. But I know God has a plan and have seen Him work great wonders through this (what looks from our perspective in this temporal reality to be a) tragedy. Please pray for the love of his life, Jessica, the mother of his child, that she might find comfort and healing in the depths of her grief in the limitless love of ChristEven in great pain and at our lowest points, and especially so, God is so very good through it all.

I always took this song to be about how the world changes people - we all start off as little fat babies and eventually become the people we are, for better or worse. It's an odd reflection of innocence that even the worst people in the world were once little fat babies and perhaps conditioned into their acts. Good art makes you think
