For those that dont know, The Sons of the Pioneers are a great American singing cowboy group, who appeared in many movies in the 1930s and 40s. They were founded in 1933 by Roy Rogers. The group still performs, although all the original members are deceased. They brought a number of traditional cowboy songs to the forefront, including real cowboy songs that were found by John A. Lomax (Cowboy Songs & Other Frontier Ballads...superb reading). The Smithsonian has labeled The Sons natural treasures and they are all members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Sorry, this is soulful stuff to me, although I know it isnt soul music. Lol. This is from 1941. It was in a movie called Red River Valley.

My young years were full of Roy Rogers, The Cisco Kid, Rin Tin Tin and of course, the music of Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. The morality and 'good-guyness' of those shows and their music is undeniable and made an indelible impression on me and my young friends. Loved it then; love it still.

Love the voice of Bob Nolan, the composer, on the solo lines of this deceptively difficult piece.Mr. Bell, in the below post, is on the money. Ken Curtis,who sang in the middle of the trios, is pictured. That makes the foto 1949. Lloyd Perryman, rhythm guitarist, usually sang the high part. Ken's voice was pure velvet--nothing like his character of Festus.

I love this song! So glad you posted it and I discovered it! But..WAIT A MINUTE! The tune sounds suspiciously similar to "Begin the Beguine"

I have always loved the way this song began, upbeat and happy. I can almost feel the horse's canter beneath the saddle. And I haven't been in a saddle in twenty years. I love the music of Gene, Rex, Roy, and the Sons and how it always makes me feel. Thanks for the post.

Take a look at the sky where the whippoorwill thrills...ouve-se na música uma referência da canção Begin The Beguine de Cole Porter executada por Artie Shaw...

Western Swing on 78rpm

Bob Nolan, whose lyrics were verging on the mystical, provides a direct conduit to another time. Brian Wilson did the same for California in the early 60s', and Kraftwerk for Europe in the late 70s'. Every decade has someone who nails down the era perfectly using sound. The impression these recordings leave behind will provide future generations with an accurate portrait of the times..all in 3 perfect minutes! {except Kraftwerk..}

Considering I am still yearning for their music, and posting it on Facebook will make even more people remember and hear it again, it proves that this is an everlasting group! Wonderful, and thank you so much for putting it out here.

I am 39... When I was a kid I used to play the 10-inch album this is from, which my Dad won throwing baseballs at the local amusement park when he was younger.
