I'm pretty sure he's playing in the key of E with an A harmonica, which is called cross-harp or 2nd position. You get the E chord when you inhale, and an A chord when you exhale. Harmonica keys are named for the chord played on exhaling, the inhaled chord is always five notes higher. Blues players learned to treat the inhaled chord as the "home" key because it gives different notes to the scale other than what "straight-harp" (playing in the same key as the harp name) playing does.
