"Whiskey in the Jar" is a famous Irish traditional song, set in the southern mountains of Ireland, with specific mention of counties Cork and Kerry, as well as Fenit, a village in county Kerry. It is about a Rapparee (Highwayman), who is betrayed by his wife or lover, and is one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs.

It has been recorded by numerous professional artists since the 1950s. The song first gained wide exposure when the Irish folk band The Dubliners performed it internationally as a signature song, and recorded it on three albums in the 1960s. Building on their success, the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy hit the Irish and British pop charts with the song in the early 1970s. Then in 1988, the famous worldwide Smokie band came as an explosion with his best version of Whiskey In The Jar, The best version ever!!! It was released in 1993.

"Whiskey In The Jar" - lyrics

As I was goin' over the Cork and Kerry mountains

I saw Captain Farrell and his money he was countin'

I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier

I said stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da

Whack for my daddy-o

Whack for my daddy-o

There's whiskey in the jar-o

I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny

I took all of his money and I brought it home to Molly

She swore that she'd love me, never would she leave me

But the devil take that woman for you know she tricked me easy

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da

Whack for my daddy-o

Whack for my daddy-o

There's whiskey in the jar-o

Being drunk and weary I went to Molly's chamber

Takin' a bottle with me and I never knew the danger

For about six or maybe seven in walked Captain Farrell

I jumped up, fired off my pistols and I shot him with both barrels

Now some men like the fishin' and some men like the fowlin'

And some men like ta hear a cannon ball a roarin'

Me I like sleepin' specially in my Molly's chamber

But here I am in prison, here I am with a ball and chain yeah

Have you ever noticed T. A. moves into spotlight when it is someone else's solo or camera angle. I think I know what that is about.
