MOMENTS TO REMEMBER for SEPTEMBER 21 - 100 years ago today, future string bass jazz great Leroy “SLAM” STEWART was born (d. Dec 10, 1987). Stewart performed with many of the greats over the decades, including a stint with the Benny Goodman Sextet during the 1940s. And there was no mistaking his uniquely identifiable style of bowing the bass while simultaneously humming or singing the same notes one octave higher.
