*12 new albums in 2015 - #2 Double whammy! (No Cities to Love and Hyperview)*In late January Sleater-Kinney released a new album - their first in 10 years. I actually haven’t listened to a lot of Sleater-Kinney before, and I think they were a pretty important band in the 90s, so I figured now was as good a time as any to listen to one of their albums.Here’s the track listing for No Cities to Love:1. FadeAfter the first listen I thought, “Wow, this is a pretty solid album!” Since then I’ve listened to it several times more, but… most of the tracks have turned out to be pretty forgettable. “No Cities to Love” is the only song that gets stuck in my head. It’s a solid track. With the rest, I’m looking at the tracks thinking, “‘No Anthems’... how does that one go again?” It’s still a fun album that I can happily listen to while I’m out for a walk, riding the bus, or doing something around the house, and I recommend you at least check it out via Youtube.* * *Later in February, I was listening to my favourite baseball podcast - The PRODcast, by Productive Outs. The guys behind the PRODcast are also musicians, and each week on their podcast in addition to talking about baseball they have a “musical guest”. They pick an album by a band they like, talk about it a bit, and play clips from some of the songs on the album between segments of the podcast. (Usually the bands don’t even know they’re being featured!) The musical guest for the PRODcast on Feb. 10th was an album called Hyperview by Title Fight. I’d never heard of Title Fight before, but the clips sounded decent, so I checked out the album on their bandcamp page. A comment by a bandcamp supporter jumped out at me: “These guys found Hüsker Dü and I couldn't be happier. Favorite track: Mrahc.” I *love* Husker Du.The track listing for Hyperview:1. Murder Your Memory2. Chlorine3. Hypernight4. Mrahc5. Your Pain is Mine Now6. Rose of Sharon7. Trace Me Onto You8. Liar’s Love9. Dizzy10. New VisionThere are definitely spots on this album that remind me of Husker Du, and other similar bands. There are a few songs I don’t like (“Murder Your Memory” is a weak album opener, and “Hypernight” isn’t my kinda thing), but “Mrahc” is a really good song and the rest of the album is pretty decent too. It’s only $7 on bandcamp, and you can try before you buy. Definitely worth checking out.
