Sissel, the international singing sensation from Norway, is widely regarded as one of the finest and most talented sopranos in the world. Her crystalclear voice has made Sissel a national institution in Norway. Sissel has sung all over the world, selling over six million solo albums. She contributed the haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic. She has been doing great duets with singers like Placido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Neil Sedaka and Josh Groban. A very remarkable voice you will only hear once in your lifetime.

WHENCE IS THE GOODLY FRAGRANCE FLOWING

Whence is the goodly fragrance flowing

Stealing our senses all away?

Never the like did come a-blowing

Shepherds in flowry fields of May

Whence is that goodly fragrance flowing

Stealing our senses all away.

What is that light so brilliant, breaking

Here in the night across our eyes?

Never so bright, the day-star waking

Started to climb the morning skies

What is that light so brilliant, breaking,

Here in the night across our eyes.

Bethlehem! there in manger lying

Find your Redeemer, haste away,

Run ye with eager footsteps hieing

Worship the Saviour born today.

Bethlehem! there in manger lying

Find your Redeemer, haste away.

I love your voice Sissel, and this is a beautiful cover of one of my favorite Christmas carols! Great job!!!

She is singing a French carol in English for the same reason I imagine that many regional opera houses in Germany perform non-German operas in German: so that their listeners can understand and enjoy not just the music but also the meaning of the text. This performance is obviously primarily intended for an English-speaking audience

Sissel`s voice is much better than many internationally known sopranos and other big names. Her voice is perfect for classical music and songs like this.

Half a brain is better than none. I defend your right not to agree with all you read. I expect the same from you. Haven't you yrt reached the stage in studies where you learn that as hominem arguments don't hold water?

Is it the muppets who have elected you judge eternal or does it come from a natural arrogance? Concerning the translation, can't you see the resemblance? Repetition, I say repetition is frequent in poetry as a means of emphasis, NOT tautology however.

5. A Bethléem, dans une crêche Il vient de vous naitre-un Sauveur allons, que rien ne vous empâche D'adorer votre redémpteur A Bethléem, dans une crêche, Il vient de vous naître-un Sauveur. And why are the three other verses missing? Would six verses be too repetitive? And yet, the Christmas message is amplified in them. Is that a synthesised trumpet and organ? (sounds cheap).

Why is she singing in English? 17th Century French traditional carol. 1.

Shepherds waiting in the fields for Christ in .......MAY! What an idea. Maybe in Norway there's no grazing in December, but there certainly is in the Midlel East. What's the difference between "haste" and "hie"? Tautology, I'd say. It's true that her vowels agive an impression of beauty, but without consonants, the text is incomprehensible. Thanks for posting the text ;p
