My fave Tabor piece, my fave ... Celtic/trad-from-UK singer, although Dolores Keane is my other one, and my fave bit of Carthy. (And why does the vid say Dolores Keane? Can the poster change that?)

I love the folk process. Two versions of "Georgie", one with the traditional tune, and one with a very different tune. I like both. Robin Williamson does a fairly trad rendition, or at least as trad as Robin ever gets. I love Uncle Dirty Toes' version, but it's not online. June Tabor has a very different rendition, which I find quite compelling. (The album is good, too.)Robin Williamson - Geordie Gordon.wmvSilly Sisters - Geordie

This has always warmed my Celtic heart, both for the powerful yet sensitive Carthy rhythm and picking, and for June's fine dusky vocals. Thanks for posting it.

@Clothosx Well I first heard this in 1974 when a school chum lent to me the casette tape of the album. It still grabs me the song is so perfect in its simplicity. If you can't appreciate this you have your musical taste in your arse. The same friend also lent to me Songs of love and hate by Cohen, I tell you for a thirteen year old he had some class.

@Fooliccini Boy, that is a big ask. The guitar on this track is played by Martin Carthy who is known as a master of these tunings. It just might be something approximating the C tuning he sometimes has used, but am not sure. There is another version of this song (different again) by Martin Carthy on Youtube. Could be worth a listen to see if you can work it out also. -- Rgds.

For Carol, Ali, & Denise. x x x x Many memories of a happy time in my life, before I realised the washing up liquid I was using to clean the kitchen was rather toxic. Stil bearing the scars, but..... we move on. x x

I listen to this song over and over again. Then I come back to it later. It never ceases to be pleasing. :)

And they were stark and steady....what a wonderful description. This is a great LP; perhaps you could put up "Bloomers" ? And is "Pity the Poor Night Porter" on this, or another of theirs? Whatever, good on ya.

I love this song and this album so much. The music changed me in a wonderful way when I discovered the "folk revival" through the "Silly Sisters" album in the 80's.

@atfaTURK Are you lonesome tonight? Did your blowup doll burst, and leave you just with an empty shell to hold?
