This version has pure drive without screaming. Great tune that I remember from watching The Powerpuff Girls cartoon with my daughter.

I wouldn't say this was a better version than the Monkees original because it's flatter and doesn't hold the same dynamics as theirs, this is just a nice simple unpretentious little slice of pop punk, I really like the Japanese female style sound of the words and way she sings Sleepy Jean as Sleepy dream or whatever, that works a treat.

No, Shonen Knife is more Japan's answer to the Ramones... If the Ramones sang about collecting insects... And were a bunch of girls... And had sweet ass basslines rippin' throughout their songs.

I always thought this song was a natural for the Ramones to cover..to the best of my knowledge they never did..

There's even a video up here on youtube of Kurt Cobain talking to Shonen Knife telling them how much he enjoyed their music. LOL.

1) you're responding to a comment made 2 years ago. 2) Kurt was a fan, not sure about NIRVANA as a whole.

I love the Shonen Knife version of this song. The original by the Monkees is lame.
