Frankly, I prefer the Alphabet song.

I was a first-generation Sesame Street watcher and I always thought that Roosevelt Franklin was performed by Northern Callaway, but looking it up it was the original Gordon.Interestingly the Roosevelt Franklin character was dropped because black groups thought he was a stereotype!

Actually Matt Robinson did continue to voice Roosevelt Franklin on the RFES Sketched!

Now that I've watched a lot more, as well as tried my own hand at puppeteering, I very much agree. It's easy to think that moving your hand while talking in a funny voice is something that can be mastered in a day, but it's not. If you watch other early Anything bits like Goin' for a Ride, the characters' physical mannerisms are very similar to Roosevelt skits, so it's certain that it was Jim, Frank, and Caroll doing the puppetry. Also, did Jerry do RF voice and all in later RFES sketches? .

Mt guess is that Jim Henson and Frank Oz performed the puppets (They along with Caroll Spinney were the only muppeteers at the time) While Loretta Long and Matt Robinson provided the voices!

Roosevelt Franklin was created and performed by African American Matt Robinson, and the Muppeteer doing his mother in these sketches was likewise black. Sesame Street was originally conceived of with poor inner city children as its target audience. It's not like this is all lily white Harvard educated PBS producers trying to put on a minstrel show for upper middle class children in the Hamptons and Cape Cod to laugh at.

Roosevelt Franklin plans to get his first job when he is six years old, hauling bricks. Still want to get rid of PBS, Newt?

One, going on two? Roosevelt's either born on Feb 29 or else he is one smart prodigy! Either case, RF is one smart kid!

@delideliver Oh, no. That's not the case at all. He didn't die until almost a decade ago. That's still him as Roosevelt. Remember, in this very episode, Gordon himself (played by Matt) introduced this sketch.
