My dad had this album. Remains an all-time jazzy favorite, even when listening to it as a kid in the 70s. Love the Kingston Trio!

This goes back before my first phonograph in 1965, and I remember all the lyrics. The first time I heard it , I didn't know what they meant - Scotch, "on the wagon" - but they stuck . Great harmonic progression too.

This is my favorite Bob Shane jewel. This song's back story is amazing! Do yourself a favor and look it up. It will amaze you. All four of the members of the KT's first two versions could sing and play beautifully well. After having folllowed this All-American HOF group for many years, I was lucky enough to meet Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds (who were playing with George Grove at a local tavern in Atlanta). They were gentlemen and fun to be around. I really enjoyed remembering some of my favorite songs with them, such as Dave Guard's favorite, "San Miguel," and the KT's beautiful version of "It Was A Very Good Year," another Bob Shane classic, which the KT released before Frank Sinatra made it one of his signature songs.

First time I heard this song was around 1973 or 74 in the basement of a bar called Mothers sung by a young girl , Barbara Quant , I believe was her name. Loved the way she did it , also just love the song!

Saw the Kingston Trio Saturday Oct 22, 2016. They told the history of this song. They said the royalties from this song paid Tom Seaver's college tuition.

My husband played this for me on his guitar when we first met in September, 1973. I loved the way he sang it. Sadly he passe away 3 years ago but there is a tv commercial playing a tune similar to this that makes me think of your song

This song brings back memories of hearing it on the Juke Box @ the Brewster Bowling Lanes. My drink is scotch on the rocks with a twist of lemon.
