Somehow I agree with you. Power metal wasn't discovered in USA until Germany show it with bands like Atlain and Helloween. Atlain shows the true power on their second album in 1985 (Out on the streets is an example of that) while Helloween played with speed. Between 1984 and 1985 epic metal was the closest thing to power metal in the states.

@FollowBaneFTW Stratovarius came out in '84 and Jag Panzer, Manilla Road, Omen and Griffin had brilliant records out in '84. And when a band come out with their first album in '89 you can't really call them piooners like Wikipedia wants to believe it. You rather believe wikipedia over a bunch of talented musicians.

@FollowBaneFTW Stratovarius and Heavenly are cheesy power metal bands and almost horrible. Power metal was never meant to be slick and melodic. If it wasn't for bands like Helloween, Scanner, Heavens Gate, Stormwitch, Mania and bands from North America (the homeland of power metal) your precious Stratovarius and Heavenly wouldn't have exist now. And I personally take Avantasia over Stratovarius and Heavenly any day.
