The ice is thin come on dive in

underneath my lucid skin

the cold is lost, forgotten

Hours pass days pass time stands still

light gets dark and darkness fills

my secret heart forbidden...

I think you worried for me then

the subtle ways that I'd give in but I know

you liked the show

tied down to this bed of shame

you tried to move around the pain but oh

your soul is anchored

The only comfort is the moving of the river

You enter into me, a lie upon your lips

offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get

only a fool's here...

I don't like your tragic sighs

as if your god has passed you by well hey fool

that's your deception

your angels speak with jilted tongues

the serpent's tale has come undone you have no

strength to squander

The only comfort is the moving of the river

You enter into me, a lie upon your lips

offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get

only a fool's here to stay

only a fool's here to stay

only a fool's here...

Men are lied to and betrayed, too. I'm so unlucky in love that it's affected my children...feeling this song. I'm such a fool... :-(

A lot of people debate over the meaning behind this song, but I think it's beautiful for the reason it fits every situation where a woman has been betrayed, hurt, used, etc. I never understood the depth of the words until recently. I'm sad to say I relate with this song as I'm sure many women do. The liar in his song isn't just a 'man.' It's society as well. Women are constantly being misled, used, and cheated on by society and it's men right from childhood.

Sarah McLachlan ≠ Tori Amos. Different artists... and great music by both!

This song is so beautifully, tragically, disturbingly dissonant.

@cristian78911 Sarah Mclachlan herself said that the underlying meaning of this song had to do with the child prostitution she witnessed when visiting Thailand.

Outside, it was cold and gloomy, and when I hear some whispers... Dear Sarah, The song, "Ice," gives me icy chills through my spine; it's dark, cold, quiet and sad... faint of heart. It brings me to tears. You are one of the sweetest and most beautiful singers of the world. Your voice is sooo soft, icy, frigid, and full of soul. I love you so much. Keep up with the good work. Sincerely, the drk knght

@asianette How so? I'm seeing it pretty much just from the perspective of the prostitute, so I'm curious what you mean.

I think of Winter Faeries when I hear this.

This song is about prostitution. Listening to it just drives a spike of cold through me and I'm just paralysed and mouthing along to the words until the end. ...Which is when I hit the replay button. Thank you for posting this.
