I Don't think Peggy and Sandy were in the band at the same time until her return in the mid 70s, so is the Video a mashup?

Hope it's ok to post a bit of English folk rock? The gorgeous voice of Sandy Denny, she died way too young.

I'm incapable of listening to this without getting a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat… how can something be so sorrowful and yet so blissfully beautiful at the same time?

what was the most gorgeous? The song? The English countryside? or Sandy? All three. This song grips the heart hard in inward pain but also comforts at the same times. a masterpiece by Thompson, i belive based on the death of his girlfriend in a horrific crash thta also killed a bandmember.

across the pond... in Canada... we had 2 "Fairport Convention" Lps - first with Judy Dyble feat "M1 Breakdown" [laugh out loud at the title ! ] 2nd with Sandy [cry for weeks at "She Moves Thru The Fair"] in '73 we got 1969's "Sandy Denny and the Strawbs" [ we got very, very quiet ! ! ] got to see Richard Thompson play in Edmonton [still have scars where my jaw hit the floor ! ! ] God Bless the Brits ! ! !

This footage is all the better for it's low key amateurish slant; nostalgic of those wonderful Summers of music and joy in England at the end of the 60s. Poignant to see Swarbrick so young and healthy (who'd lately joined to the delight of those of us who used to watch him with Carthy in London pubs) and a hirsute Thompson et al and of course the lovely Sandy. Lovely days, memories and music.

Farewell Farewell is a 'Cried Down' song which mentions through suggestion the departure of Bonnie Prince Charlie after the 1745 rebellion in Scotland. After the '45' rebellion Tartan was banned for example and any direct mention of support for the Jacobites (supporters of Prince Charlie) would result in banishment to the 'colonies'.
