Ran across this years ago (which was the first of four different artists on the Buddha label + Bob James,who recorded it), and as much as I liked Gladys Knight's execution of the song,the best version of this song was the one by the Stairsteps. The lyrics are more spiritual and not talking about how no-good their partner is and one can relate to it on many levels. This was an interesting listen, as Gladys & The Pips were faithful to the original interpretation,.
