Walking with my baby down by the San Francisco Bay,

One ocean liner's took her so far away.

Didn't mean to treat so bad, best girl I ever had,

said goodbye to make cry, I wonna lay down and die.

Ain't got a nickel, Ain't got a lousy dime.

She don't come back, believe I'm gonna lose my mind.

(if) She ever comes back to stay, (it's going to) be another brand new day,

Walking with my baby down by the San Francisco Bay.

The ocean liner's gone so far away.

Didn't mean to treat her so bad, best girl I ever have had,

I've heard this song now for over 40 years, and in MHO it's the definitive version of the song. All on beat, beautiful chord changing among the players, done with fun, and classic vocal interplay between Frank & Eric. The mix-up in the last verse simply makes it all the more charming, as the Carnegie Hall audience lets you know. Jesse Fuller wrote it, but the Weavers make this part of the American songbook.

The Weavers DO "weave" an inviting path through the youth of us Boomers. . . even the goofs! [Maybe ESPECIALLY the goofs?]

@Jumperchick02 you have probably figured out by now the chords are easy to get on the web. the only part that is important is the F to Fm to C.to A7 this is actually a walk-up on G string from A to G# to G then back to A with A7 chord. . Easy song and fun to play and sing. Most play this in key of C just like this video Enjoy.

This really is one of the fondest memories of my childhood...singing along to this album round the house. " you'd better learn the words first"
