The original MALAKO is the better song but most people only know MALAKO DISCO. MALAKO is the first song that introduced Les KINOIS to Kenyan music scene

This is the version off the NME tape which I think was from '85. Also includes Youssou N'dour, Thomas Mapfumo, Fela Kuti, Mahotella Queens, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and much more. Amazing tape which I have lost !

@Papasean7 ORIGINAL lead guitar on this song was done by Bibiley Kabakaba . Joseph Okello "Jose" did bass, Vostao Temopele (R.I.P.) was on rhythm. Bibiley is now saved n does gospel music, the bass player Okello relocated to Australia n still active, Samba relocated to the USA n lives in Minneapolis . many of the other original Les Kinois n Virunga band members are now resting in peace, guys like Fataki Lokassa, Kasule Mopepe among others. Great sounds they left us though...

@verosartis the translation is in the CD liner notes to the Virunga Volcano album, and while it may seem passé to buy a physical CD, do it, get online and find it, if I had one favorite record of everything I've ever heard it is that album, its so amazing. the gist of the lyric are that Samba's mother is dying and she tells him to take care of his siblings for her, he was 12 or so when this happened. The story in the lyrics is as strong as the music. Samba is in the US now and still active !!

Just a small correction to Initially2, Lovi did not sing in this song, the tenor you hear is the voice of SAMBA MAPANGALA the composer of the song. The bass player was Okello Joseph and Bibiley kabakaba on the lead guitar. Keep listening
