Another tune that may give you a neck ache to be found on their latest album "Sabbatrinity" released respectively on R.I.P. Records. Happy and safe headbanging!

Dark~Metal

*Just did a mini-survey of Japanese black metal. I had serious doubts going in, but I did turn up a gew gems.* And I know I am stretching the definition of black metal here, so that's open to revision. But it all hits a dark nerve, if you know what I mean.*SABBAT*SABBAT - Black Metal Scythe LIVE Japan 2010These guys have been around for almost 30 years. I am very glad to have discovered them, so thank you for sending me on this journey,@Ruri Sumida. Not black metal per se, though. They have more in common with their namesakes, Black Sabbath, and the thrash metal of those magnificent god-killers, Slayer. They also seem to prefer to perform half-naked, which is OK, seeing as they're not that ugly. SABBAT are awesome! SABBAT - Live at Wacken 2002 (Full Concert)*MAGANE*Magane-TsavulafiMagane say they play "Yomi" metal. Or Japanese "pagan" black metal, I guess. The "pagan" aspect is fascinating, really. You get it with more and more metal bands, from Finland (Moonsorrow) to the Ukraine (Drudkh), Brazil (Sepultura) to Kyrgyzstan (Darkestrah). It's mostly only the black metal bands that blend folkish sounds successfully, though. There are other less dark metal bands that try their hand at the pre-Christian folk thing, like Eluveitie and Finntroll, and they largely fail because of the discordancy of lilting and "bouncy" folk sounds and grinding, staccato, "angry" metal sounds. Black metal, with its more grotesque, melancholic sound, is easier to blend with, and to more evocative effect.*TYRANT*Tyrant - Under The Dark Mystic SkySymphonic black metal. Pretty good, by black metal standards. Hate it when they become "symphonic", though. Theatricality is never something to trifle with if you're not sure what you're doing :-D*SIGH*Sigh - The Summer Funeral "Scenes From Hell" (2010)Sigh - The Transfiguration Fear (new song)Saved the best for last. These guys can play many styles very well. They play a kind of progressive-cum-avantgarde black metal, and they have a sense of humour. They are also the only band I knew about before tonight's exercise. My respect for them has just grown.
