From his 1979 album Victims of the Fury.

Robin Trower - Lead guitar

James Dewar (RIP 1942 - 2002) - Bass and vocals

Bill Lordan - Drums

Lyrics:

You were all the rays of sunlight

Shinin' gold to me

Every color of the rainbow

I was blessed by her decree

You were every moment's magic

Joy beyond compare

You were all the rays of sunlight

I was lost without a care

Victims of the fury

Shadows in the dark

Victims of the fury

Arrows found their mark

So we lived our days in rapture

Like the world could never end

We weren't thinkin' 'bout the future

We had time enough to spend

We were blessed as though in heaven

We were messengers of joy

There were angels all around us

There was none who dared destroy

Victims of the fury

Shadows in the dark

Victims of the fury

Arrows found their mark

Then the world collapsed around us

And the tables overturned

We were lambs before the slaughter

We were driven out and burned

Yes the world collapsed around us

And the archers found their mark

We were victims of the fury

We were shadows in the dark

Yeah victims of the fury

Shadows in the dark

Oh victims of the fury

Arrows found their mark

Victims of the fury

Shadows in the dark

Victims of the fury

Arrows found their mark

James Dewar was big part of Robin Trower's sucsess through the 70s and 80s its sad he's gone.

Great album.I have listened to this song so many times since it was released in 1979 and I always thought that the opening lines were "You were always the sunlight, shining onto me",but after reading the lyrics on this post I realise that it is "you were all the rays of sunlight, shinin' gold to me".Having said that I think that the fourth line is "I was blessed by high decree" and not "her decree" as listed.I know,I know-I need to get out more, and in fact I will be in a couple of weeks to see Robin Trower play live-never seen him before-(bought the tickets back in November) so looking forward to it!

I favored this over Bridge of Sighs. Just wailed it in the 70s

James you are so wonderful ! To me this is a song of an era and something to think about beings that there was so much fury and spirit in the times. I am thankful and relieved to be born and come of age then (you know when) as energy meant something and accomplished something. Is this the way it is now? I think so but I think people in general are too lazy right now to take advantage of what information is available to act upon...coupled with the power of the internet!! Wow...maybe it will happen yet.

One of my all time favorites. James vocals without equal. Bill Lordan just wearing out his hi-hats and Robin smooth as ever.

I heard that this song was supposed to be based on the holocaust, and the 'victims' of the third reich...don't know if it had any legitimacy? but it's an awesome song with many other trower songs, and you all are right about james dewar, his vocals are fantastic, especially when you 'get' what he is saying in all their tunes!! rip james thx

James Dewar is so smooth, and Robin really gets his groove into this one. This is the band at their finest.

Ronny James Dio was a big fan of his.

Quite right. These so-called 'Classic Rock' stations all believe people want to hear Eric Clapton's rendition of 'Cocaine' over treasures such as this song. A true shame indeed.
