When I first heard this song, I was compelled to replace a tape of it in my college French class. It destroyed me even as I knew nothing or could relate it to a particular person or time. Nevertheless, it brought on my first great depression.Tonight I saw a documentary on Roberta Flack and this song was not included. It seemed an oversight based on my relationship with her entire catalog. Oh God how my heart breaks when I listen to it again.Maybe this is about leaving NYC after not so short a time. Or perhaps it was a response to the latest hurdle from my mortgage lender (Quicken Loans). They will promise you the moon and then snatch it away at the last possible moment. Nevertheless, she lifts me up and comforts me with her voice. Thank you, Roberta Flack.
