Talk about Peabo on this song all you want but he was young and was probaly nervous having to sing one of his heroes(Donny Hathaway's) parts! And great as Luther would have done on this, check out Peabo singing the Closer I Get To You live with Roberta on YouTube, he does better than Luther did on his version with Beyoncé! Luther and Peabo are two of the greats!

Please, Lennon and McCartney are the biggest joke in music. A few songs are ok, but they are all hype by a society brainwashed into thinking they are more than what they are. Crazy because Paul envies Stevie Wonder.

It's extremely important to note that Stevie Wonder wrote this song,since he soooo underrated, Lennon & McCartney continue to get props as the greatest pop songwriters! Stevie Wonder could & did write their asses under the table! I anin't evenn gonna mention Stevie's pure talent as a phenomenol singer/songwriter,producer,arranger & fantastic multi-instrumenatlist who play piano,organ,synths,drums/percussions,harp,bass,guitar,clavinet,spinet,accordian & other various instruments !

Like so many other great artist,entertainers & athletes, Peabo Bryson wass struggling with a serious drug addiction at the height of his career, that had more to do with his career be limited as much as anything else ! I remember Peabo Bryson & Chaka Khan having to cancel concert dates because of their drug use.

i have the original recording, live from merryville, illinois or was it INDIANA; can't recall. anyway, this tune was released about a year or two after donny passed away. so, it's significant that peabo was chosen to continue the flack-hathaway legacy. great video upload. hope you can other video from this classic period in music. early 80s - during disco's demise, when soul was still real - before the electronic-drum wave appeared. GO BERTA GO BRYSON.

@MrGclef1183 Luther was, in fact, doin' quite fine at about that time. "Good Times" by Chic which featured Luther within the chorus was the song that ruled all others and bogarded through every town. And it's influence is still heard throughout the world of rock and soul music. Maroon 5 and many, many others echoe sound elements taken from Chic.

Not long after Donny's death, Roberta was on The Tonight Show. When she got ready to sing this, she announced that Peabo would sing with her. They were outstanding-and I was shocked at good Peabo was with her.

Luther used to sing backup for Roberta Flack. According to interviews since he was so talented she fired him, so that he would pursue a solo career. They remained friends. Peabo has a dynamic voice as well. They are all true vocalists.
