Great music.I can listen to music like this for hours on end.Pity Robert did not like being in the spotlight because he should be up there among the blues greats.

September 12thOn this 12th day of September in 1900 early Texas Blues vocalist Alger "Texas" Alexander was born in Jewett, Texas.Alexander was one of the first male Blues vocalists that didn't play an instrument. He used a variety of accompanists both in recording and on the road. Because of this, his recordings are diversified, from primitive field hollers to early Jazz-Blues with players like Lonnie Johnson and King Oliver`s New Orleans Band.Alexander`s career was interrupted when he was sent to prison in 1940 for his wife`s killing. Circumstances surrounding the death led to a five year stint in the Paris, Texas State Penitentiary. Upon his release, Alexander teamed up with his cousin Lightnin' Hopkins, but declined a recording contract with Aladdin Records. Hopkins went on to become a Blues legend.----------------------------------------------Banjo player Gus Cannon, leader of Gus Cannon`s Jug Stompers was born on this day in 1885 in Red Banks, Mississippi.---------------------------------------------Billy Daniels, who sang the 40`s hit "That Ol` Black Magic", was born on this day in 1915 in Jacksonville, Florida.---------------------------------------------Ella Mae Morse, who sang with Freddie Slack, (whose band also included a young T-Bone Walker), was born today in 1924 in Mansfield, Texas.---------------------------------------------Guitarist and Memphis Blues pioneer Frank Stokes who, with guitarist Dan Sane, formed the influential Beale Street Sheiks, died on this day in 1955 at the age of 67.----------------------------------------------On this day in 1949, Robert Nighthawk recorded "Sweet Black Angel".----------------------------------------------Robert Nighthawk - Sweet Black Angel
