Under-appreciated only by the unsophisticated masses. And who cares about them, anyway? By his intensely loyal fans (such as me) he is adored and revered. Critics love him, too, as do most major rock talent, who look up to RT. Mellencamp once famously said "Richard Thompson could say more in one line than I could in a whole song."

So generous of VH1 to give Richard a red backdrop, a stool and a couple of mic stands. But, then again, all he really needs is his voice, his words and his guitar.

Why the red? It's hard to get used to. But the mics and mic stands, and camera work, are all thoughtful, like they're listening.

I find it disappointing that people say guys like Clapton and Santana are the best living guitarists when Richard Thompson is alive and ridiculously more amazing. I could listen to him all day, and he's the man I aspire to play guitar like. Such an under-appreciated genius.

RT doesn't normally play his acoustic guitar acoustically (I know that sounds stupid, but think about it). Quite like the softer feel.
