From the album Reveal, released in 2001. One of my favourite songs.

Some trivia... Thom Yorke from Radiohead was going through a period of extreme depression during the late 90's, and Michael Stipe was one of his best friends. To overcome the severe stage fright he had developed, Stipe recommended him to tell himself: "I'm not here, this isn't happening". This motto eventually became the chorus of Radiohead's "How To Disappear Completely", from Kid A (2000). And said song supposedly inspired Stipe to write "Disappear" as a sort of response. Considering that this was released in 2001, I think it's pretty plausible.

Thing is, they had a thing with songs in the weight of 6/8. This here sounds a lot like 'daysleeper, which sonded like 'new test leper', which sounded like 'strange currencies' which sounded like 'half a world away' , which sounded like 'Swan Swan'.I'm not sure it's a bad thing, but it's definitely a 'thing'.
