So sweet, so incredibly melodic, sounds so perfectly harmonious yet so sinister. Randy was a true musical prodigy and master of his instrument. Some of us feel Randy has proven himself to be the best guitarist ever mainly from just his 2 albums of work with Ozzy.At 24 he had attained as high a level of proficiency on his instrument as anyone ever has...but I think it was his timing ability (picking, time signature & tempo shifting) that made his music so live, so absolutely amazing and better than any other player I've ever heard! He practically godfathered a new genre of heavy metal music, was a major influence to rock guitarists ever since and STILL is today. Randy resurrected Ozzy's career straight out of hell, with the speed & subtlety of a thermonuclear explosion, while handicapped by Ozzy's unique but awful vocal range…his other band mates’ best, was barely more than a hindrance to the young master’s skills.Playing the guitar however, wasn’t his only talent. Oh yes, as great of a guitar player as he was, I think Randy was an even better composer. His classical training and musical knowledge, composition skills and understanding how to apply musical theory, was used to create his masterpieces, that makes him second to none and I think pushes him over the top, makes him the best ever. If a piece makes you emotional, feel like crying…that’s primarily from the arrangements and composition itself… minors, modes, etc… tone is secondary…I always get a laugh when some people commented elsewhere about how guys like EVH are the more musically superior players to Randy Rhoads…or faster or whatever …of course Eddie is fantastic, I like him a lot, no doubt a legendary guitarist, an innovator, sound effects wiz, blues pentatonic style, but Eddie VH is not in the class of a Randy Rhoads or is as knowledgeable of a “musician” of real music, like RR. Some even compare The Edge, or Dave Mustaine, even Kurt Cobain (WTF?), as “technically” (?) better guitarists than RR??? Holy fucking idiots, Batman!!
