Randy Newman obviously read capital (das kapital) by Marx. I suggest you all do the same before you post uninformed comments.

Communism could never work because it is easier to corrupt unlike a democratic system that allows the people to decide.

The irony in this song is in its penultimate line: "Where the rich just get richer and the poor you don't ever have to see." If you miss that line, you miss the point of the song.

So many idiots confuse the political status of previous communist states, not realing that communism is an economic system, not a method of appointing officials. You could easily have a democratic communist country. The only problem, is that the people this would hurt(the families holding a large % of all the wealth in the country" would fight it tooth and nail, and the same freedoms that make our country great, makes stupid people susceptible to political attacks funded by the mighty dollar.

Back to unemployment in the US soldiers that have fought in wars for us come back to their wives cheating on them then go into having psychological problems, lose their homes, jobs and then don't have anything left to live for which is why so many US soldiers kill themself today. Don't say unemployment doesn't make a country complete shit especially when millions and millions don't have jobs to support their families for anything.

Actually it is linked because unemployment means you're not making money, not making money means you can't afford going to the doctor, dentist, school etc. you can't get a nice life unless you have a job to make it nice. Realize everyone in Russia actually had the right to leave their country when it was communist if they though it was as bad as you try to make it seem yet not that many left because they liked their current life. They had a job and things to live for. --

Have you not noticed how many wars the US has started for no good reason besides for resources? There's no way in hell we would get involved if it was just about keeping the peace, why else did the vietnam war start? Communism you're given a job by the government that's your job unless they tell you otherwise, at least with their government everyone has something to do.

Marx had it right the way the US runs nowadays is actually worse than Communism in many ways, hell you act like the US hasn't tried limiting the rights they gave us hundreds of years of go.

The point of the song is exactly what the title says: the world isn't fair. Not that Marx was right or that Capitalism is right. He points out that Marxism didn't work and that Capitalism... isn't fair. That is all he is saying. He's not promoting anything.

Good grief @scorned230. Blaming Karl Marx for the cruelties of Marxism is like blaming Jesus Christ for the cruelties of Christianity.

"Millions Dead, No rights." Have you ever tallied up the millions dead via capitalism? If not, why don't you? And you've have missed entirely the irony in this song. Specifically the line near the end: " . . . where the rich just get richer and the poor you ever have to see." If you think this is some kind of "pro capitalist" ode, you've missed Newman's complexity.

Lol the lyrics don't suggest that at all.
