I have a son now and am a little wiser, but this music still brings up my hackles. I remember living on the streets, sleeping in a car-park or a shop doorway, with my hair in spikes and studs on my jacket. Punk as a mother-funker until I die, innit. Cheers RANCID, keep the faith .... OLY, NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND ... OI OI OI!!!!!!!

I first saw this band in my twenties. I am now much older but I was on the Twenty Years Down Tour with Cock Sparrer and it was amazing and still a fan. I did think Rancid played fewer songs and gave more of the floor to Cock Sparrer which was a little frustrating but on the night Cock Sparrer were amazing. Before Rancid I was and still am a big fan of The Clash and I think Rancid took over where The Clash finished in many ways. There are definitely a huge influence on Rancid and that is not a bad thing at all so I feel like I have gone from listening to The Clash to Operation Ivy to Rancid so there has not been a huge change in the music I listened to in my lifetime. There has not been that huge change like there was in my parents era where parents listened to their music and their children listened to their own and never the twain shall meet. Children now who may like Rancid are going to their parents collection and possible finding The Clash so the move has been more transitional which is a fantastic thing. At that Rancid gig the age range went from 14 to about 70. I kid you not as Cock Sparrer were around in 1972 so if you were 25 in 1972 so born approximately 1947 so 67 now approx. or 65 when the gig was on so that is fantastic range in age. I have been to many gigs this year and there has not been on where you would think I am 40 now so too old for this because the mix was so diverse and that is the great thing about punk it seems to be for all ages.
