Though this song was to make a point about lack of response in certain neighborhoods, it had a bad side effect on our society. It encouraged youngsters to prank call 911 when it was a hit in 1990.  It was on an episode of the TV series "Rescue 911", which aired in 1991.  On July 14th 1990 in New Brunswick New Jersey, 911 operator Rosa Natal got two prank calls at the beginning of her shift, in which kids called 911, sang "Get up a get get down, 911 is a joke in your town", and then hung up.  She then got a third call from a five year old child named Patric, who had a real emergency. His mother was having a stroke.  She almost hung up on him, because she thought he was playing on the phone.
