kathy kutler. your q. i'll try to answr. love tries to cross distance, and in the physical it doesnt, theres valentines sent, even sneakers sent to people in prison on other continents, maybe even get there, just the way you meant them to.but thats not really what is meant by the sending.its just that the person isnt there, not physically, maybe never will be again. what is left when physicality is confounded? a whole lot, just nothing you can touch.

@duckman531 Well Duck, this was my favorite album then, thoigh I haven'heard it for what's it 41 years.. I gotta say, I guess it still is! They wete not afraid to say and sing what they knew was real. The recorded sound, like the printed page, waits and waits and waits..

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. That kind of love song which can make you cry. Ciao. Fer

I agree with duckman. This is one of the most terrific albums ever, particular the title track, which I can never get enough of. But this song is....what? Words fail terribly....

@kdks99 Very much sounds like separation of lovers for some reason'..But that maybe over simplistic'..As you know Keith Reids' lyrics were very deep and dark in their construction'...But hey'..Who cares'..Such a beautiful song'..It could mean what you want it to mean uh?

@violetjm so glad to hear it really is a love song...i was always a little concerned that it would be another 'don't worry baby' and be about car racing or something

@kdks99 - I've never been able to figure it out completely, but always felt it was about two people in love who were growing apart. Keith Reid, the lyricist, says it "..... was a love song written about somebody who was in New York while I was in London. It's written like a letter." Oh, well, maybe someone else will explain more. I've always loved the song too.
