Procol Harum always made music that was 'edgy', yet at the same time they had the potential to sell millions. The fact is proven as they did this with AWSOP and followed with a few minor hits later and some work that the general masses did not get at all. However, they always toured well and their live work in Canada with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra has to go down as some of the best ever analogue recorded live performances in the history of music.

I always found ti strange that given his connection with the band though Chris that the band was referred to as The Procol Harum at this stage in their existence. There are introduced thus in some early TV clips too. I always thought they were just Procol Harum, albeit with some curious spellings. Wonderful how many videos are now on YouTube! The early live gig at Biltzen or is it Blitzen is worth seking out. BTW still a wonderful band today - again check out YT from 2013 orchestral events.

@inheld - Thanks for the info. Chris Copping's brother did a great job with filming; really nice closeups of the musicians faces, and he focused on the instruments, too. Trower has an incredible acoustic guitar. Thanks for restoring this.

@consumerbob - Thanks for the heads-up on rutube. I found a bunch of videos strung together from the album "Home," and so I found "Your Own Choice," a song which I had never heard, along with a video of Brooker, Trower, Wilson, Copping, and Reid cavorting around in the snow and throwing darts in a pub. Never had I seen the guys from Procol Harum smiling and having so much fun; it was a joy to see. Plus I really like the song.

Even though I became a fan back at the time of "Salty Dog," I then lost touch with what Procol was doing. Now, all these years later, I'm discovering what I missed. Thanks again so very much!

I would love to get a high quality of the original special. In the meantime, you can find the full thing on RUTube (you tube equivalent based in Russia).

One of the cool things about the original video is that it has an alternate version of the song. Well, the audio quality redefines poor, but still "quaint". The fan club released this video at one time; I can't remember if it was VHS only or also DVD. There is a Russian Web site call RUTube that has (last I checked) the full version of "The Procol Harum" video.
