About To Die (Lyrics):

About to die - the crowds applaud you

Afraid to die - they'll resurrect you

Light a candle up in kingdom come

Light the way for the saviour's son

A candle burning bright enough to tear the city down

About to die - the crowds reward you

About to die - their cheers ignore you

Light a candle up in kingdom come

Make a welcome for the chosen one

No candle burned with fire enough to tear that city down

About to die - the crowds applaud me

Afraid to die - they'll resurrect me

Light a candle up in kingdom come

Light the way for the saviour's son

A candle burning bright enough to tear that city down

Line-up:

- Gary Brooker / lead vocals, piano

- Chris Copping / bass, organ

- Keith Reid / words

Pete Owen I was thinking just yesterday( before seeing your comment) HOW Procol probably had an influence on The Band this song certainly reflects that smart people often think a like obviously we are very intelligent and musical

Just got back into Harum, having always loved A Salty Dog, and listening to tracks I've never heard, albeit 40 years late. This one stands out in every way, sound, drums, vibe. Decades ahead of its time. It is very influenced by the Band, it must be said.

Jimmy Page was not stupid! He knew that B.J. was a genius!
