This video was released in 1984 and played on MTV only one time (so far as I know). See the official website at http://TrueBeliever.de

These two songs are from the album "Pink World" which is the story of a 7 year old autistic boy named Artemus. Artie is non-verbal but has psycho-kinetic abilities. The government uses Artie to construct The Zone, an anti-missile shield as a protection against nuclear retaliation. The government makes Artie into a Messiah for the people to follow.

OMG! Just found this..first time I've seen this..I'm one of the people on the scaffold and end scene sitting next to Artie on his left! Great fun filming this and so pleased to have seen it 31 years later!

No, not Autistic; Artiestic! Those little girls are so cute, I can't help but smile every time I see one of them come out! Artie can only smile at one of them, and then only for a moment; poor boy :.^(

Video factoids! First, this video was in power rotation at MTV for three weeks at the end of 1984 and active rotation for an additional seven weeks, until the week ending Feb 2, 1985. At the time, Tony Carey was trying to get a movie deal for Pink World, but alas... This video was shot for under 40,000 UK pounds (1984 value) because director Roger Lyons decided to use 16 mm film for the whole thing instead of the usual 35 mm film. The director's own mother and father appear in this video (starting at 0:31 and 1:22) as Artemus' parents. After watching this video last week for the first time in 30 years, I went to Wikipedia and found there was no article for Pink World or any of the songs (and the Planet P Project article is in need of serious help), so I started a new Pink World article. (A previous article for the album had been deleted 5 years ago, but this one is now rated C class by two WikiProjects, so it'll stay.) I did a fair bit of research for that, and that's how I learned these lovely factoids. The LP and the single for "What I See" (with "Behind the Barrier" on the B side) were both released on pink vinyl, and both entered the Billboard charts on the week ending Dec 1, 1984. The album topped out at a meager #121 on the Billboard 200, but "What I See" made it to #25 on Billboard's Top Rock Tracks. (The single never made it onto the Hot 100 chart.)

I was lucky enough to record this on VHS one of the few times it was shown. To this day it is my favorite music video. Sadly, a few months after I recorded it my brother recorded over it! This is the first time I've seen this in 30 years! I teared up several times while watching. Thank you so much for posting this!"And the Minutemen stood as we knew they would, and the world went temporarily saneAnd the radio said 'My God! Cover your heads, and get out of the falling rain!'And the true believers looked on and laughed till the last cruise missile had flownAnd life goes on for the lucky ones out here in the Zone, behind the barrier."The cold war again reached a frightening level around the time this video was released. We had to learn our local nuclear war disaster plan in high school (1982-84), where the likely nuclear strikes from the Soviets would hit us, their likely megaton yields, and the likely fallout patterns. We had a tiny hospital (20 beds or so) in our town of 8,000 people, and we were the major relief point for evacuees fleeing south from a metro area with 2 million people. That all felt so real, and imminent. This video evoked all of that, and the boy in the middle of it all, that felt like me. I'm autistic too.

MTV used to show this video early in the morning right around the time I got up and got ready for school....I thought it was really weird, but it's definitely one that put its hooks into me.

I used to play "Do You See What I See?" in a cover band back in 84/85. Where we lived for a time, it was played regularly on the radio, so we assumed it was popular everywhere. Nope. LOL. But we loved the song anyway and many audience members would ask us about it - they thought it was an original. Great song - haven't heard it since I last played it...27 years ago.

In Max's defense, (and as one who is familiar with the autism spectrum), I would have to say that when I first saw the video, I too thought of Artie being a non-verbal autistic boy. The staring off into space as he was being bathed, the neat orderly arrangement of beds in the dream, the apparent synesthesia with the color pink, all hint to me of autism. However, the author certainly has the right to define the character more than the receiver.

@naeaman The story was Artie drank some Radiation-infused Water from a Lake, near a Nuclear Plant, which rendered him Voiceless, but gained him increadible powers.

He wasn't autistic, he was too young to talk when he first gained his powers..

No, I definitely saw this more than once on MTV and I remember the premiere of it. Bought this on vinyl later on. What ever happened to Tony Carey anyhow? He went from straight pop a year earlier (A Fine Day, First Day Of Summer) to a double-disc concept album, which no one was really doing at the time. He basically played all the instruments on this album...very talented artist.
