A teaser from "The Robinson Scratch Theory" 2LP / 2CD / Digital
Out June 10th, 2015
Pig Rider were a pioneering DIY psych / folk / rock band formed in the late 60s by John Mayes and Colin Kitchener. After creating some of the rarest homemade psych-full albums from the 70s, they continued recording in the early 80s, releasing a bunch of privately pressed cassettes. Compiled by Alexandre Mansuy (Somewhere There Is Music blog), "The Robinson Scratch Theory" collects tracks from 1980-1986.
A missing piece from the DIY cassette culture scene puzzle.
Bedroom psychedelia, outsider synth-pop and lysergic folk with lot of fuzzed out guitars, cheap electronics & keyboards and raw, homemade vibe. And not forgetting very funny and bizarre lyrics. Think Instant Automatons, Desperate Bicycles or Beyond The Implode if they could write brilliant pop songs.
Guerssen Records present a comprehensive Pig Rider reissue campaign, starting with "The Robinson Scratch Theory" (1980-1986) for June, followed by "Bloody Turkey Sandwiches" (1974) and "Heterophonies" (1975) for July.
“…How can it be possible that a band like this, with such a huge and fantastic catalog stayed in the shadow all these years? There is no other example like this in the music history, as far as I can think of, making it one of the more interesting band ever. Pig Rider could be the first truly DIY band predating The Desperate Bicycles by a few years…” – Alexandre Mansuy (Somewhere There Is Music)
