Ochs WAS a better writer than Dylan -- far better than Dylan gave him credit for because of his ability to pinpoint a topic and, with laser-like focus, enunciate the surface and deeper issues at hand. A PBS "American Masters" special said Ochs was always looking to Dylan for the approval which was always withheld and this is partly what drove Ochs.

liberal ideas havent much changed but 'the center' has moved drastically to the right... money, gerrymandering have moved it.

Uh...Liberals still aren't the left of the political spectrum. They are now simply to the left of right win conservative nuts. There is no left...except for the views of the American public which fall to the left on nearly every issue. Universal health care for example, which over 70 percent of Americans support. Yet we don't have it. There is no left.

He's singing from the perspective of the so-called, "liberal", not from his own political views.

OK - I think I get this song now, after a couple of listens. The so-called "liberals" he refers to, are the centrists of the time. He was VERY left-of-center, and took shots at liberals that didn't go far enough. Today, the right has managed to label those left-of-the-far-right as "liberal", even though they are much farther to the right than their 60s counterparts. And people can also vote down my comment, but liberals absolutely fought for all those things you mention. Conservatives did not.

In 2008, Obama clearly said that he would invade Pakistan if there was actionable intelligence that Osama Bin Laden was hiding out there. Obama never claimed that he opposed all wars. He said in a famous speech that he opposed STUPID WARS [like in Iraq], but not all wars. He was never a peace candidate at all, so stop assigning qualities to him based on your own delusional preconceptions, that come from not reading the goddamn newspaper and not watching goddamn debates.

"Liberals" are pro-war. Just as Johnson was a fake peace candidate back then, Obama was a fake peace candidate. THe military-industrial-banking complex rules the U.S. The 2 major parties and the various presidents are for show.

When you say "anti-LGBT" you're speaking from the presupposition of a sort of static social landscape. Make no mistake, left wing folks have always been more favourable toward LGBT interests. Your statement seems to imply that the John Birch Society of 1970 would have been glowing supporters of gay rights, when obviously this was not so. Lefties may have used un-PC, now considered homophobic slurs, as insults, but conservatives at the time still wanted gays executed for making Jeezus cry.

The Obama administration is merely continuing what the previous administration started. Also, many liberals that I know are not lining up in support. The ACLU is suing the NSA. However, this song is quite potent at exposing the hypocrisy that is the human race.

With the Obama administration massively spying on Americans, essentially using the Fourth Amendment as toilet paper, and with liberals and Democrats lining up to support these anti-democratic policies, this song is as relevant as ever.

When he sings "DAR - that's 'Dykes of the American Revolution.'" LOL. He was so openly anti-LGBT and the liberal audience loved it.
