Phil Lynott went on a solo tour during a break from Thin Lizzy's 1983 Farewell tour and took with him John Sykes and Brian Downey from Lizzy, as well as two future members of Grand Slam (Mark Stanway and Doish Nagle) to do some gigging. This unit was known as the "Three Musketeers".

"A Night in the Life of A Blues Singer" was a track first recorded by Thin Lizzy back in 1978, but was never on any official release and was only played live by Lizzy once (Reading Festival 1983). Lynott and crew play a blistering version of it here, with John Sykes leading the way on guitar. This is taken from the "Live in Sweden" disc, recorded 8/15/1983.

I think the VKWA boxset is the only 'official' place where you can get the studio version of this song. I'm not quite sure about European releases. Other than that, you'd have to look for the original "Nineteen" single from '85.

Sabfan, would you by any chance know where I could get a CD with this song on it- not the live version, the studio recording. Thanks.

There's the '78 demo with Gary Moore and the '85 B-Side of Nineteen, also with Moore. I've never posted either one...perhaps I'll post the demo of it.

I would like to hear a version of this without John Sykes... just to hear the difference in the guitar, maybe it will be less flashy.

The Grand Slam Live 1984 album also has a wonderful version of this fabulous song. This is an excellent version as well. Thanks for posting!

This song is so good, yet so rare. It should be re-released.

Yep, I have the version off that single and the version that was played at Reading for the BBC concert. All the versions are quite good.
