Backtracking a bit, Tosh had a big hit called Maga Dog on the Joe Gibbs label in 1971, but felt he was not being compensated enough in monetary terms. So he took the rhythm with him and the Wailers re-cut it as Once Bitten. The song was full of Jamaican folk proverbs like "Sorry for maga (skinny, underfed) dog, maga dog turn 'round bite you." The song sold well on the Wailers Tuff Gong label. Dog Teeth, from the same session as Once Bitten and again using the Maga Dog rhythm, features spoken words by Peter, again full of Jamaican folk sayings like "If you lie with the dog you must rise with flea."

@owans69 we dont they do. they feel very threatened when one of us gets as influential as peter tosh did. towards the end he was givin speeches n stuff at his concerts. thats how powerful his message was, he was expanding it beyond his music and he already had such a following. they didnt want his words reminding and empowering that many of us at a time. he told the truth and they struck him down for it. and he knew they would too. i wish i could thank him for his courage and his sacrifice.
