This is the story of Peter and the wolf.

Each character in the tale is going to be represented by a different instrument of the orchestra. For instance, the bird will be played by the flute. Like this. Here's the duck, played by the oboe. The cat by the clarinet. The bassoon will represent grandfather. The wolf by the French horns. And Peter by the strings. The blast of the hunters' shotguns played by the kettledrums.

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.

Early one morning, Peter opened the gate and went out into the big green meadow.

On a branch of a big tree sat a little bird, Peter's friend. "All is quiet, All is quiet" chirped the bird gaily.

Hi Shoumie!I mentioned to you the wonderful children's classic, "Peter and the Wolf", composed by the Russian composer, Sergei Prokofiev, in 1936.There're are a number of recordings of this classic. But, for me, the one that touches me most is the 1978 recording with the narration of the story by the versatile David Bowie.Enjoy all 4 youTube sections of this work. (Altogether are just 27 minutes.)

Of all the versions of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" that I have listened to, this is the one that I like the best by far ... David Bowie's narration is a classic in itself.

When I was a child we did a ballet version of Peter and the Wolf. I was a hunter but I really wanted to be the cat!

David is a splendid narrator. I also like Sterling Holloway's version. Each fellow has their own way of narration.

is this in the public domain? It must be since it's playing here for free, unlicensed, and so on.... I wonder why this recording has lapsed into the public domain? It surely couldn't be that youtube is hosting illegal material! :o

ok folks. enough with the Bowie comments. With all of the standardized tests..the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" political mindset (barf).... and cuts in the ARTS.... (because after all the ARTS are merely a 'frill' and not a necessity)..... UNFORTUNATELY they do not teach this in average American Public School Districts anymore. Hello?? Therefore, Whatever it takes to turn on the young ones to TRUE culture, as opposed to the "music a la carte/karaoke thing"... that is NOT Music Ed.... I say, "GO for it!." the.end. and THANK YOU to glamyears <3
