Great interview. Growing up in the heart of San Francisco...had seen many amazing concerts as a very young kid, at Winterland. My best friend and I were planning on seeing that live Peter Frampton concert, which ended up being half of the live double album (Frampton Comes Alive). Unfortunately we didn't get our tickets on time. Personally would have been more grateful to see one of the Live in the Fillmore East Humble Pie concerts. Those four dates from the special box set, are all incredible.

Amen Brother Frampton! Peter was huge in Detroit in 1975/76 ahead of the Comes Alive LP. How do I know? Well I had a little hottie Italian GF who insisted that we wait in line to get Mr.Frampton's autograph at some record store and the place was packed! And Honest God, a 15 year old me asked Peter F. " Why did you leave Humble Pie?" and his answer was "To do this." Bravo Maestro!

Rock bands morphed all the time and made the launching of new bands and solo artists possible. It's all part a wonderful evolution that was extreme in the 60's, 70's and 80's. .

Ahem!kat Mats9 months ago "I do wonder if it was not for Steve Marriott where Peter would have ended up. I am not saying Peter is not talented but it was Steve who discovered him" ????Peter Frampton was "discovered" when he appeared on a talent show in the UK fronting a band called The Herd. He had 3 UK top 20 hits before he left to join Pie. By that time he had already been voted 'the face of 68' so he was pretty well-known before he joined Marriott.

Glad it worked out for him. He is a great guitar player. But his time with Humble Pie will endure through time long after people stop listening to Frampton Comes Alive.

Peter had way more class musically than Steve Marriott whose voice and style was tiring and too in your face, just like the personality.

Pete wanted to be the front man of HP. But he realized (wisely) that it was just not going to happen as long as Steve Marriott was in the band. Frampton was a talented musician and performer but he could not hold a candle to the stage presence and charisma of Marriott. It turned out good for him as he achieved mega-wealth with his "Alive" album, but I'll bet he never had as much fun as when he was with the Pie.

I saw the Rockin the Fillmore era shows twice at the Eastown theater in Detroit as a 15 year old and they literally changed my life.

I read Bill Graham filmed all his Fillmore shows now owned by Wolfgangs Vault. don't know if it's a DVD yet. Most kids today wouldn't believe a live act like Humble Pie. Rockin' the Fillmore 1971 and also Live '73 "King Biscuit" are "a gas".

I saw the March & May Fillmore East shows. The Best Dam Rock-n-Roll Band. Too bad it wasn't filmed.
