I remember seeing this on PBS when I was a kid . I got out my guitar and played along with a lot of the songs. Thankfully no one else was home at the time or they probably would have told me to knock it off so they could hear the tv, lol

Great version of this Sons of the Pioneers classic! RIP Pete and RIP Bob Nolan of the original Sons of the Pioneers-- the songwriter.

This is great. I wish someone would find the PBS broadcast done a year or two before this which was just Pete and Arlo-no backing group. Like the first tour. I saw them at Schaefer in Central Park and actually got to sing it with Pete at the Clearwater fest before they had to move it back in 80 or 81.

That two-part harmony bit makes me feel like I'm floating on a magic carpet. Beautiful.

Nice version. I have a recording of Pete doing this song and telling how he learned it from Cisco Houston. What a great hobo song. I first heard this by the Sons of The Pioneers, but always liked Pete's version better. When he sings it you can see the desert and the moon and feel like you are there. One of my favorite songs to sing.

Great to hear this great tune! My sister lived out in Denver in the early 70's and saw Seeger and Arlo at Red Rocks--to this day she says it was the best damned concert she ever went to. Thanks for putting this video online!

This song is the main theme in the movie "Raising Arizona," though that version is performed by someone else, and the whole song is yodeled.
