I did this mixture of the gospel classic "Peace In the Valley", From the studio version from Elvis and I took the part of Johnny from the 1969 album At San Quentin. Hope you like it.

Oh well, I'm tired and so weary

But I must go alone

Till the lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh yes

Well the morning's so bright

And the lamp is alight

And the night, night is as black as the sea, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day

There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray

There'll be no sadness, no sorrow

No trouble, trouble I see

There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

Well the bear will be gentle

And the wolves will be tame

And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes

And the beasts from the wild

Shall be lit by a child

And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day

There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray

There'll be no sadness, no sorrow

No trouble, trouble I see

There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

They were both great in thier own right but put them together they would have brought out the best in all thier fans. May thgey both find peace in the valley although I believe GOD has one heck of a choir with all the great artists he has in heaven.

Both of these guys wanted to be in Southern Gospel quartets like the Statesmen and the Plainsmen and had a deep love for the music. They went to Rock and Country, but I know both of them, despite the mistakes they made in life are experiencing peace in the valley with their savior right now. Both loved God deeply.

It's a shame,if Elvis had put the word out he was looking for a new manager,at that time, he'd've had his pick of some of the best in the business, used to working in that more modern environment than what Tom Parker had come up in. I'm sure any of them would've come up with the money to pay off Parker. If Elvis had found it within himself to follow his own creative instincts, and had a manager that understood him, as a person and artist, I think he'd be alive today. Well, got that off my chest!

In his eyes, it was Tom Parker that got him there, and I don't think he dared speak out too much against some of the deals he made for him, because the proof of Parkers know-how was all around him. When he did tell Parker he was fired, I think in the late sixties, Parker just said "Well,Elvis, that's fine, you just owe me so many millions from this and that, and I'll go", Elvis thought better of it.

He was never told what to sing, and rejected a lot of material, although he had to choose the best of the crap that he was presented with during the movie years. As for just being about the money, you're confusing Elvis with Tom Parker, his manager. Elvis saw Tom Parker as the man who made him. Elvis grew up poorer than most of us can imagine these days, but by 21 he was a millionaire movie star.

When he was at Sun, there was no manager involved, they were creating everything, stylistically, from scratch. Before Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly,it was all fresh. Even when he first joined RCA, he took control of his first session, and didn't quit on a song until he knew it was right, to his instinctive standards, regardless of what seasoned "experts" in the company had to say!
