i disagree, i believe you are alluding to the fact that we in the united states have leaned far more towards pragmatism and analytic philosophy rather than continental philosophy. I do not disagree with the fact that the odds are most fans have not read any of the frankfurt school or adorno or marcuse or foucault. However I believe that the majority of the fans of this music are more informed than the average fan of most other types of music.

The amount of nostalgia surrounding Orchid is indicative of listeners who don't actually understand the music they love so dearly. Orchid's songs are often very critical of jingoism and all the other things that contribute to the "phantasmagoria" that create nostalgia. No wonder they got burnt out. It was probably North America that did it, since Europeans seem to have a fucking clue about philosophy and social theory. Blame your schools.
