Omega (Hungary)

Album:Omega lll (1973)

The most successful Hungarian rock band in history, OMEGA is one of the rare bands to have been known outside in his country. The legend has it that as albums were released in other countries it became necessary to brake the language barrier. Their music is a combination of Eastern European prog with a bit of symphonic and a bit of psyche prog. The result is a dark orchestrated sound combined with extended improvisation. Their discography actually starts in the early 60's, and goes in till today in a more modern register. Several albums were released in Hungarian as well as English. I'd prefer the "accented" English version of the albums.

Long ago, when my heart was loudYour heart answered with loveIt passed and now I am quietWith love that turned to silenceIt was long ago; we were still togetherThe picture stays in me, beautiful even todayYour face, nearly glides in the windI can hear your laughter like a melodyI trusted, the long separationWill not tear our lives apartI trusted, yet you didn't wait for meAfter a long year you don't even know meLong ago, when my heart was loudYour heart answered with love.Search lyrics

Not everyone understands great music (unfortunately)! I personally consider this one of the best songs ever made, by anyone.

I even don't know whether they really exist in English. Sorry. I must confess that I am not among the biggest Omega fans, or at least my sympathy toward them is quite limited. (And I am asking myself whether even this "limited sympathy" is not nurtured partly by a kind of nostalgy.) I know all their hits they made until 1979 by heart, because I grew up with them, and I really appreciate two or three of their albums, but - how to say - I think that they have their limits.

Anyways, most of them I prefer the Hungarian version. Some I prefer English, and there are a few that I like both.
