@TheWestHammers No. Definitely not. The reason he lost his voice is his singing style. He sings with his throat. Actually, he doesn't sing at all. He shouts. If you shout for two hours per day hundred days per year for 15 years you'll not have any voice left. Just try. Drugs and cigarettes has nothing at all to do with it. There are many brilliant singers snorting coke and smoking without starting to sound like Kermit after ten years in a band. Sorry for my english. All the best.

He sounds different here to 94 because he is putting less volume into his voice, plus he doesn't have the same effects he used on the album (big echo, chorus etc) I think his voice cracked up at the end of 94, you can listen to jules holland 'i am the walrus' and 'whatever' and you can hear the 95-98 voice starting to come through

@TheWestHammers the coke'll what fuck up your sinuses? and it's an analgesic so I'm sure that's definitely a good part of it, but I think the real reason his voice went so bad so quick was all the shouting singing style he did in the early years. It's a shame but was well worth it, but it could only last so long.
