"NRBQ is a highly-acclaimed American rock band, purveyors of a unique brand of "omnipop" since 1967. They are known for their live performances, containing a high degree of spontaneity and levity, and blending rock, pop and jazz styles of the 1950s and '60s. The abbreviation "NRBQ" stands for New Rhythm and Blues Quartet."

From their 1997 children's album "You're Nice People You Are", a cute song used, in part, in an older episode of The Simpsons I saw recently:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bye_Bye_Nerdie

I originally looked on YouTube for any material from NRBQ about this song, but sad to say I really couldn't find anything, so I decided to make this video and song available for others to potentially enjoy this song as much as I have, as well as discover a lesser-known group responsible for loads of fun, creative omnipop. :-)

That fateful night, I witnessed one of the few times I could remember of Matt Groening making a montage on the show with real artist music and little else (singing or dancing by the characters), Homer just ran around baby-proofing everything while the cropped music and break played in the background; as I listened to the song (over and over again, as I kept rewinding the DVR), I smiled and thought, maybe this song was used on the wrong show - definitely sounds like something that should have been used on 'Scrubs' :-D.

However, as Wikipedia continues to explain about the band:

"In addition, they served as the unofficial "house band" for The Simpsons for the season 10-12 period in which NRBQ fan Mike Scully was head writer and executive producer, contributing several songs and even appearing in animated form during one episode (as well as appearing on camera during the end credits to perform the television show's theme song)."

Added the lyrics to the video, and I'll add them here as well, hope you enjoy the song as much as I did - if you'd like a copy... you could always send me a message asking for it.

Just had a whim, to go take a swim

Out on a limb, just haul off and jump right in

But that's not so smart and so I'll hold on to the rim

Ahh, then I will live to swim again

It's really neat, to go cross the street

Don't skip a beat just fly on my swifty feet

But I'll stop before I go, the light will tell me when

Ahh, then I will live to cross again

Slow down, buckle up, take the time, rehearse

Always Safety First

(Break)

I'm feelin' free, Ill go climb a tree

Oh monkey me, I'm just like a chimpanzee

But it's way too high and so, this time I'll just pretend

Ahh, then I will live to climb again

Ahh, ahh,

ahh just remember

...Always Safety First!
