The Berlin Wall fell in 1989. This video was co-produced in 1989 by Rénuka Wickramaratne and Eddy Capone not long after the Ceausescu regime was brought down. Rénuka, after organizing the first demonstration in London in support of the Romanians who were trying to bring down Ceausescu, was asked to help organize The Relief Fund for Romania. Eddy Capone contacted Rénuka who agreed to help get the project off the ground and co-produce this video. They worked together on the recording and later co-produced the video. Filming was done on the same day that Nelson Mandela was released - so there was an amazing atmosphere. This song is a rewrite of an old Mary Hopkins song "Those Were the Days my Friends" which was originally produced by Paul McCartney in the 1960's. The director was Ziggy Bergman. A lot of wonderful people helped on this, including: the amazing late Edwin Starr ("War") Carl Douglas ("Kung Fu Fighting"), Trevor Etienne and Chris White of Dire Straits.
This video was shown repeatedly on Romanian TV but has been lying dormant which seems an utter shame in light of current events. We are posting it here on the basis that it may give someone strength and hope in their battle against tyranny, corruption and dictatorships. If anyone would like to mash it up to maybe help encourage those who are trying to bring about democracy and fair play, please feel free to give it a go.
