The Teds never really lost their cool or their presence in the music industry - many of the young boy bands today wear very similar attire, and esp drainpipe bottoms!.Love this song even though I never really understood what is was all about in 84 as an 11 year old. Just another wonderful Nik Kershaw strum.

I once had a floor laid by the owner of the big yellow car in the song and video, probably one of the most boring pieces of pop trivia ever uttered but there it is! This is a great song and stands up well today alongside the rest of Nik's work in his purple phase from 1984-1986. Some of the later work on 'The Works' is good too, though I am not too keen on the tracks released since 1999. I saw him live in Liverpool playing to about 200 people in 2012 and it was a great performance with all the musical faculties in tip top shape, supported by a very proficient band. I couldn't help thinking back to the huge fame he enjoyed and Live Aid which was off the scale in terms of size and significance, and comparing the two. One the one hand it's admirable that artists are still in it for the love of the music but I also hope the music of the era is never allowed to be forgotten. Everything is of its time and life moves on but the creativity of the eighties is too good to be forgotten-it's so much more than nostalgia. There has never been a period before or since that is as creative and varied as the eighties.
