Nik Kershaw - Walkabout

Taken from the album The Works

There are walls to keep the stranger out

And doors that open wide

Over here, over here

Open spaces for a silent shout

A place for you to hide

Over here

Over here that feeling that fills my head

And smiles as as I take my time to bed

And

I hear someone calling me

Oh no

This certain space is not your place to go

And

I see someone standing there

Go away

Gone walkabout, not coming out today

Nothing ever seems to matter

And yet, nothing means so much

Over here, over here

No magic box or slight of hand

No mockery of touch

Over here

Over here I go but not to sleep

I hope there's something I can keep

(Chorus)

@snorhyveln oh yeah. i have plans. i have a few friends that have studios in their house and work with them and i have the freedom to play like me. i never had a producer talk to me the way that dude did. record producers are supposed to make you feel good about yourself to help get the tracks done. that dude didn't. i never dealt with a producer like that before. a friend of mine from los angeles said that session musicians are making a comeback which is great.

@drumfoomaster sorry to hear that! I´m glad though that musichians build their own studios for a respectable amount of money, and create their music dispite market trend! The knowhow is spreading slowly to becoming pro-standard in sound and downmixes. So bring it out an Myspace and other sites!

@kirk7524875248 i know what you mean. i was invited to play drums on an album and the producer told me that there is no dynamics in music anymore and to think like a drum machine. long story short, i got fired from that session. so much for creativity in music. not in this day in age.

There'no real bass on this album, all the bass sounds come from producer Peter Wolf's synclavier.

oh so you mean he was replaying it, showing you what he had done in 89?? i get that now. when i said he was great but not that great i meant he couldnt have played it in the early 90s for it to have been on a 1989 recording, no matter how good he was on the drums he cant go back in time. thanks for the insult, appreciated. i missunderstood you, you misunderstood me. i wont insult you for your lack of understanding i shall be a man and just just say have a nice life.

on the 1989 released album 'the works' he did it in the early 90s? Jeff was great, but not that great.

If you like Pocaro, check him out on 'New York minute' by Don Henley (wicked track too) - and check out Radfio Musicola by Nik. Simon Phillips is on a few tracks, and I personally think it's Nik's best.

This is quite possibly one of my all time favourite songs. I remember buying the album from Vigin Records in Manchester back in 89 little knowing I'd have a 10 year wait for the next release :(

Lucky guy! "The Works" is THE album I would take on a desert island. I wish I could see the whole making of too!

Actually Nik said Porcaro played on 4 or 5 tunes, but only "Walkabout" made it on the album. I wish we could hear the rest of the recorded stuff.
