In 1983 New Order made their own documentary called Play At Home for Channel 4. It was an examination of Factory Records, the label they were on. Various figures from the label's history were interviewed by different members of the band.

One of which was Martin Hannett, the producer of Joy Division and later New Order themselves. This interview with him has gained an infamous status because of the ending where he appears to fire a gun into the general area of interviewer Stephen Morris.

Martin Hannett started off as a simple beer swilling alcoholic who then proceeded to eat himself into chronic obesity and eventually ended up as a coke snorting smackhead. Lucky bastard.

Each time I've seen Hannett or a representation of him in film he always appears to be a genius suffering in a world of fools. Great footage - thanks for posting

martin hannett was a genius, totally under appreciated, yet a complete ego maniac!

You have a point but there are also people like Quincy Jones, George Martin and Giorgio Moroder who are not. Arguably there is a much higher percentage of brilliant producers who are a bit crazy than say, train drivers who are. Seems to be common amougst creative people.

Interview from 1983 with Factory Records producer, Martin Hannett.Looking every inch the deranged musical genius, swigging a Jack and Coke. He's being interviewed at Strawberry Studios by New Order drummer, Stephen Morris.Morris suffered the brunt of Hannett's musical obsession with getting drums to sound like the ones he heard in his head.Towards the end of the interview Hannett starts playing with a handgun and finishes by firing it in the direction of Morris.

Are all brilliant producers crazy as a loon? Joe Meek, Martin Hannett, Phil Spector

What year was this? He looks like he's put weight on since the recording of him talking Tony Wilson through a drum mix. Did the drugs and smack make him his weight balloon or was it food? He seems like he was good mates with Morris and was having a good laugh speaking about Wilson and Factory.
