New Order - "Ceremony"

This is why events unnerve me

They find it all, a different story

Notice whom for wheels are turning

Turn again and turn towards this time

All she asks is the strength to hold me

Then again the same old story

Word will travel oh so quickly

Travel first and lean towards this time

I'll break them all, no mercy shown

Heaven knows, it's got to be this time

Watching her, these things she said

The times she cried

Too frail to wake this time

I'll take them down, no mercy shown

Heaven knows, it's got to be this time

Avenues all lined with trees

Picture me and then you start watching

Watching forever, forever

Watching love grow, forever

Let it be known, forever

Ian and his words immortalized. Thanks for sharing. Also, that's a great image of the band. Do you know if that's available in a poster size somewhere?

My dad trained for the Boston Marathon with this music in 1993. He saw the band live in MA in 1991. I was told there was a book called "The Best of the Best" from the 80s and of course New Order was the last entry in the Book, they are the Best of the Best. The Porsche 911 was also in the book, and as anyone whom has ever driven a Porsche 911 will know it is the only motor vehicle that lifts up when one accelerates, much like a jet aircraft. The band New Order is the best of the best, and in the book, was listed the Beatles, Beethovan, Bach, the U.S. Constitution and it's founding fathers, and many other items, including the computer and the internet. My question for you all, has anyone seen a copy of the book, "The Best of the Best" I need to get a copy.

NO's rendition of the song feels a lot more uplifting, almost cheery I think... personally I prefer Ian's vocals, even though they're not clear on any of the three JD recordings of the song he just brought so much soul to it, and you didn't need to hear the exact lyrics to feel it. It's a great song either way, but it just feels to me as though it's missing something that only he could've brought to it.

This might be the only optimistic song Ian ever wrote. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I loved this from the very first time that I heard it on the Charlie Gillett Show on BBC Radio 1, just as it was released. It sounded unlike any other song that I'd ever heard and it's still my favourite song, 30 - odd years on.
