This is New Order's first version of 'Ceremony' that appeared on the seven inch by Factory Records. It has only been officially collected on the New Order compilation 'Singles' (and main audio source for this 'sound still'). All the rights belong to New Order, I do not own any rights to this song.

Lyrics:

This is why events unnerve me

They find it all, a different story

Notice whom for wheels are turning

Turn again and turn towards this time

All she asks is the strength to hold me

Then again the same old story

Word will travel oh so quickly

Travel first and lean towards this time

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown

Heaven knows, it's got to be this time

Watching her, these things she said

The times she cried

Too frail to wake this time

Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown

Heaven knows, it's got to be this time

Avenues all lined with trees

Picture me and then you start watching

Watching forever, forever

Watching love grow, forever

Letting me know, forever

I wish there was a studio recorded version with Ian on vocals.

Great. All of the digital remasterings of this have compressed the life out of it.

I got mine from someone who "found" a bunch in a warehouse in Whitworth when I was at school. Fantastic song.

This version is one of the greatest songs of all time - in my opinion. It gave me goose bumps back then, and it still does now. Lalafigaro.... Avenues all lined with trees

Incredible song... I prefer the Galaxy 500 cover though, only slightly...

I remember getting in an argument when I was 19 with some guy about this, pre-internet. He'd heard it, it was this legend that Ian actually recorded the vocals but it was only released on 45 in very small numbers and it was worth like a billion dollars...and I called BS on it, said it was Hook or Bernard in a lower register. Then I invented the internet to prove myself right.

The song that bridged Joy Division to New Order.

Everything about this song is absolutely perfect. Could there ever be a better song?
